That’s fine. Don’t force your child, and try to keep it fun. Demonstrate by using a stuffed animal that first puts on a diaper and then goes on the potty. Pour some water into the potty as if it were a wee. Or make a little poop out of clay or gingerbread. Flush the fake poop or fake wee from the potty down the toilet together. Or let your child sit on the potty with a diaper on first, without needing to go. A few seconds is enough.
Your child might already be a bit older and prefer to use the toilet. That’s fine too. In that case, you can skip the potty. Make sure you have a sturdy step stool and a toilet seat reducer so your child can sit comfortably and relax. Stay with your child. Sometimes, children will want to use the potty afterward.
