My child doesn't seem interested in the potty or the toilet. What should I do?

How can you start off in a playful way?

Is your child younger than 18 months? If so, you might be starting too early. You can always read books and talk about what’s in the diaper. But it’s still a bit too early to really get started. Try again in a few weeks or months.

Is your child over 2 years old? Then you can make the potty and the toilet more interesting in a playful way. By reading books, doing crafts, singing songs about poop or pee, or making a little poop out of playdough and placing it in a (clean) potty. Take your child to the toilet and let them flush a piece of toilet paper. Keep it lighthearted. Your child can start by sitting on the potty while still wearing a diaper. Then try going without a diaper for an hour. How does your child like that?
