Let the daycare center or childminder know that your child is starting or is currently in the process of potty training. Discuss what they can do to help and what their approach is. Do they take the children to the bathroom at set times? Also let them know where your child needs help and how you can tell when your child needs to go.
Does your child still wear diapers most of the time (stages 1, 2, and 3)? In that case, you’ll usually bring your child along while they’re still in diapers. However, they can often include your child in their bathroom breaks. Ask if they have a potty available.
Is your child under 2 and would you like to start potty training? If so, please discuss this with the staff. Sometimes childcare providers aren’t accustomed to starting potty training in toddler groups (0–2 years) or infant groups (1–2 years). In that case, please ask if it’s still possible.
Is your child a little older and practicing using the toilet at daycare? If so, make sure they wear easy-to-remove clothing without buttons, such as leggings, tights, or sweatpants. And bring a change of dry clothes in case of accidents.
