Regression (or "relapse") is a period when a child temporarily regresses to an earlier step in potty training: more accidents, less interest or outright refusal. Cause and duration may vary; often it is a brief phase when behavior is briefly different from before.
Example: a child who stayed dry for weeks suddenly has accidents for a few days during busy play or after a change in routine. Relapse is a normal occurrence and is often related to other influences in the environment, such as developments at home, in the family or at daycare.
