Every family starts at a different point. Some children are already curious about the potty or the toilet. Others aren’t yet. That’s completely normal. A quick initial assessment will help you figure out where you stand right now.

How does the initial assessment work?

In the next step, you'll find a short questionnaire. It will help you figure out where you are in the potty training process.

The initial assessment looks at factors that often come into play at the beginning.

For example:

  • What can your child do already, and what does your child understand?
  • Is your child showing an interest in the toilet or potty?
  • Does your child understand words like "pee," "poop," or "toilet"?
  • Do you already have a jar at home?
  • Does your baby ever let you know when the diaper is full?
  • What's the situation like at your house?

You don't have to recognize everything just yet. The initial test is just meant to give you a rough idea of where you stand.

After the initial assessment, you'll immediately receive guidance on the best next step in the training. Don't skip any steps, and follow your child's lead.

Tips

  • Use the initial assessment as a tool. There are no right or wrong answers—it’s simply a recommendation.
  • Not sure about an answer? Choose the option that best matches what you usually see.
  • Have you received some advice? If so, always go at your child’s pace. Sometimes it’s better to take a step back than to rush things.
