What can you do?
- Did you know that most children can start potty training between 1.5 and 2 years old? Starting means becoming curious about the toilet, diapers, poop, and pee.
- You can leave the diaper on when you start.
- Keep a close eye on your child over the next few days. Some children already show small signs that they’re becoming interested. For example, your child might be curious about the toilet. Maybe your child wants to watch when you go to the toilet. Or your child might tell you that the diaper is dirty. Sometimes you’ll also notice that your child pauses briefly while peeing or pooping in the diaper. That means your child is already starting to sense what’s happening.
- Do you notice these signs? If so, that’s a great time to start with Step 1. You’ll learn how to identify these signs and encourage your child.
- Is your child over 2 years old, and are you still unsure or do you sense a lack of interest? Then start in a playful way. Almost all children are physically and mentally ready for it. They are capable of and understand enough to become potty-trained step by step.
