Here's what you can do

  • Fortunately, you don’t need much to potty train your child. You can get started with just a few simple items.
  • Take a look around your house and think about what you already have and what else might come in handy. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on it. You can often borrow a jar or find one secondhand, either for free or for just a few euros.
  • To start with, you only need a few things:

A potty. Many children start using one of these. The potty stands firmly on the floor, and your child can easily sit on it by themselves. They come in many shapes and sizes.

Toilet seat reducer. This makes the toilet smaller, so your child can sit comfortably and feel safer.

Stool or step stool. This allows your child to climb onto the toilet on their own. Their feet will be firmly planted, making it more comfortable.

  • You don't have to buy everything right away. Start with a potty. Later, you can add the toilet seat reducer and the step stool.
  • Place the potty somewhere your child can see it, such as in the bathroom or living room. Your child doesn’t need to use it just yet. Just looking at it and exploring is enough for now.

Tips

  • Choose a high chair that your child can sit in securely, with their feet flat on the floor.
  • Put the jar where your child can see it. That way, it will become a normal part of your home.
  • Don’t buy too much at once. See what you actually use. You can also borrow items first or look for secondhand options.
